2020 Spring Book Club
Videoconference: Thursday, May 21, 2020, 7 – 9pm
In 2020, the Incubator will be focusing on Priya Parker’s The Art of Gathering. Join Steve Mullaney, Director of the University Episcopal Community, to read and reflect on how Parker’s principles can be brought to our faith community gatherings.
Our gatherings as faith communities, whether for worship, fellowship, or justice, can be more inspiring than we sometimes experience them to be. We can make gatherings that are worthy of the people who show up and worthy of God’s dream for the world. One of the weaknesses of the liturgical tradition is that our gatherings look indistinguishable to folks who aren’t already in the community. The Art of Gathering will teach us to give new life to our liturgy by making it responsive to the people and the moment.
Follow-up coaching on these skills is available after the event!
Since 2014 the School for Formation has offered a one-day Incubator workshop designed to connect missional theology and leadership skills with practical opportunities that faith communities can access right now. The 2017 book for the Incubator was The Stop: How the Fight For Good Food Transformed a Community and Inspired a Movement by Nick Saul.
