Education for Ministry is one of the best-kept secrets in the Episcopal Church! It is a program for lay people who want to live more fully into their Baptismal Covenant in daily life.
Education for Ministry is
- A deep dive into the Christian Tradition
- A dynamic adult learning environment where participants shape their own goals and do discernment of ministry in community
- A small group community experience like no other
Education for Ministry is NOT
- Preparation for ordained ministry
- A traditional Bible study
Education for Ministry is a four-year course of study and reflection that connects the Christian Tradition to everyday life. Participants commit one year at a time and become part of a group process that can be transformational.
Sponsored by the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee Tennessee and the Episcopal Church in Minnesota, the fee for a year of EfM is $375, with the possibility (based on the number in the group) for a reduced fee of $175 for participants with financial needs. The fee includes all books needed for the year (except for a Bible) and a small honorarium for the mentors.
During the Covid 19 pandemic, EfM face to face groups are typically meeting on Zoom.
EfM Online provides a way for persons to take advantage of the EfM program even when they don’t have an EfM group nearby. Please contact one of the ECMN Co-coordinators for more information!
