School for Formation: Practicums on Baptism and Funerals to be offered this spring

In late March, the School for Formation offered a series of 3-hour liturgical practicum courses designed to facilitate hands-on practice for those about to serve as deacons and priests. Those gatherings generated quite a bit of enthusiasm and discussion — so much so that we found the time allotted was not nearly enough for the content we had hoped to cover. Because of that, we are now offering two practicum opportunities at a revised date and location. If you would like to join in those opportunities, please register below!

Practicum: Presiding at Baptism
with the Rev. Paul Allick
Thursday, April 30, 6-9pm, at St. George’s Episcopal Church, St. Louis Park
Preparation: Read through the baptism liturgy in the Book of Common Prayer and think about your experiences of baptism. What questions do will you bring with you?

Bring:

Your Book of Common Prayer
Notebook and pen for note-taking
A bag dinner

Practicum: Presiding at Funerals
with the Rev. Buff Grace
Monday, May 4, 6 – 9pm, at Christ Church, Woodbury
Preparation: Please read assigned articles (to be sent upon registration) as well as the liturgy for burial in the Book of Common Prayer in advance. What questions do you bring with you?

Bring:

Your Book of Common Prayer
Notebook and pen for note-taking
A sandwich, salad and dessert will be offered for dinner. Please bring a $5 donation.

Click here for registration. Those who registered for the first day of practicums on March 28 need not register again.

Liturgical Practicums

In Person: Saturday, March 28, 2015

ECMN Retreat Center

Note date change: Moved away from the first weekend in April due to Holy Week.

Instead of online coursework for April, we are offering multiple options for liturgical practice. Open to those in formation for the diaconate and priesthood, as well as deacons and priests who would like a refresher! Some reading and/or preparation may be set for each practicum at the instructor’s discretion.

Lunch will be served at 11:30 and is included in the registration cost. Each practicum costs $40 to register.  Click here for registration.
